Gearworks Received Frost and Sullivan Award for Workforce Management Solution for etrace

PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA — April 24, 2006 — Frost & Sullivan has selected Gearworks as the recipient of the 2006 Workforce Management Solution Award for their innovative etrace® solution, a wireless- and Web-based solution that measures, manages and optimizes field service operations at the point of delivery.

etrace helps businesses track worker locations, automate timesheets, capture data, complete transactions and manage communications with dispatched workers. By delivering real-time visibility and control, etrace enables organizations to shorten job cycles, improve communications with customers and mobile workers, and reduce operating costs

Each year, this Award is presented to a company that has exhibited excellence in new mobile solutions, products and technologies in the mobile resource management (MRM) market. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies. This Award recognizes the successful introduction of a solution that is expected to significantly contribute to the industry in terms of adoption, change and competitive posture. While numerous technology vendors offer vehicle-mounted devices as the hardware solution for MRM solutions, the hand-held system is emerging as a more practical and cost-effective solution for SMBs (small to medium-sized businesses). For many companies, it is critical to locate field staff at any time during the day, even if they are commuting.

Vehicle-mounted MRM is limited to only tracking physical assets and people while they are in the vehicle. Moreover, significant hardware and installation start-up costs make it more expensive than handheld solutions and the total cost of ownership continues to be a primary concern for the SMB. A new breed of MRM solutions is emerging that allows smaller companies to gain the same business process advantages as larger ones, for much lower prices.

“In this environment, Gearworks offers etrace, a location-intelligent solution that leverages GPS and application-enabled mobile devices to provide visibility and control of mobile field activities,” says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Brent Iadarola. “etrace enables real-time mobile rules-based alerts, reporting and security capabilities and is positioned well for small-to-medium businesses seeking an economical solution for gaining mobile workforce visibility.”

etrace is available in three editions with increasing levels of functionality, from simple tracking of worker time and location to enabling real-time field dispatching and transactions, and is designed to work with the Nextel Wireless GPS Platform from Sprint. It also supports Sprints network-based location tracking platform, which enables Java and non Java-enabled handsets to provide location information without using an application on the device.

Gearworks’ etrace solution addresses the key tenet of the MRM value proposition – the reduction of execution risk in field operations by leveraging location to improve management visibility into field activities. The solution is positioned well for service-driven companies in verticals such as field services, transportation and delivery, public sector, construction, utilities, and telecom and broadband.

As businesses are increasingly demanding innovative workforce management tools as prerequisites to efficiently manage and monitor mobile field employees’ services, Gearworks’ economical solution helps enterprises to tailor and deploy varying degrees of workforce management requirements.

“By enabling seamless access to a range of MRM solutions, Gearworks can provide service-driven businesses with powerful tools to create shorter payback periods, achieve business performance objectives and generate more efficient execution capabilities,” notes Iadarola.
